Indie Powerhouse Black Sands Entertainment Secures Industry Icons Michael Jai White And Eddie Griffin For New Anime

Black Sands Entertainment, the rising star in independent publishing and animation, continues to make waves in the industry. Founded by Manuel and Geiszel Godoy, the company has built a reputation for producing compelling stories that highlight the rich and complex narratives of the African diaspora.

Their journey from grassroots efforts to a national spotlight reached a turning point when they secured a $500,000 investment on Shark Tank, solidifying their presence in the entertainment industry.

After their appearance on Shark Tank, Black Sands Entertainment has focused on expanding its brand and engaging its growing community of supporters. Their latest project, an anime adaptation of their flagship comic series, has been met with much anticipation from anime fans, especially within the Black community.

After scoring a million-dollar production deal with Carl Reed of Composition Media in 2022, the anime moved quickly into production and two years later, they’ve just come to the close of a historic investment campaign that was driven and led by the Black community and brought in over $1.84 million in contributions!

One of the most significant recent developments is the addition of Michael Jai White to the cast. White, known for his roles in “Spawn,” “Black Dynamite,” and “The Dark Knight,” will take on the role of “Rah,” the fan-favorite pharaoh from the Black Sands Universe.

His involvement adds to the growing list of high-profile talent attached to the project, including Living Single icon, T.C. Carson, comedic legend, Eddie Griffin, Mortal Kombat’s Mela Lee, and MadTV’s Debra Wilson – further demonstrating the industry’s recognition of Black Sands’ vision.

A key part of Black Sands’ mission is maintaining creative autonomy. The indie publisher has explicitly rejected traditional Hollywood funding, ensuring that their narratives remain authentic and unaltered. “We don’t need them changing our stories or undermining our voices,” Founder Manuel Godoy asserts, emphasizing their commitment to community-driven investment.

Adding to their momentum, the Founders of Black Sands Entertainment recently made a major appearance on “Sway’s Universe,” where they shared their journey and insights into lessons learned since Shark Tank and dove into plans for the future. The interview provided a platform to discuss the company’s growth, creative direction, and the importance of maintaining the autonomy of Black creators.

Beyond their work in entertainment, Black Sands Entertainment has positioned itself as part of a broader movement to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in creative industries. At a time when major conglomerates are scaling back DEI initiatives, Black Sands remains steadfast in its mission to elevate Black creators and preserve independent storytelling.
