The Queen Of Comedy Gives $30K To Black-Owned Organizations In Her Hometown Of Trenton, New Jersey

I’m from the 8-mile radius town of Trenton, New Jersey. As you enter the city, you’ll see the sign, “Trenton Makes, The World Takes.” It’s the capital city with many notables who’ve made an IMPACT in the world like playwright Ntozake Shange, Nona Hendryx, Sarah Dash, Poor Righteous Teachers, and the Queen of Comedy Sommore.

Sommore reigns as the undisputed “Queen of Comedy.” This trendsetting, highly-acclaimed veteran entertainer is widely considered one of America’s top comedic female entertainers. With a winning combination of class and sass, Sommore offers audiences a hilarious, yet piercing look at today’s issues from a woman’s perspective.

This passed weekend, Sommore took her “Royal Comedy Tour” home to Trenton. The town was excited to have Sommore in the city! Sommore was excited to come back to the city, but this time, she came with an agenda; an agenda to give! Sommore didn’t just come to the city with a check to just show that she was giving away money, no she did her due diligence on where the money should go. She was intentional on the money being used on programs that’s doing the work for the city! She wanted to ensure the money would be used to make an IMPACT!

“I’m giving away $30,000 tonight!” That’s what Sommore professed to the massive crowd on Saturday night. In the summer, Timbuk2 Academy’s CEO Ayana Abdul-Raheem tagged Sommore in a post showcasing how her program is doing the work for the young ladies of Trenton. Ayana said, “Sommore came in my DM to say how proud she is of me and how she remembers Timbuktu, the school my parents created back in the day. She told me then she was going to find a way to help the program.”

Sommore gave Timbuk2 Academy, long-standing phenomenal year-round non-profit learning center Young Scholars Institute, and the African American Cultural Collaborative of Mercer County $10,000 each! I’ve been privy to know and work with each of these programs as a benefactor and a beneficiary. All are key to resources that keeps the city of Trenton, thriving!

Salute to the Queen for being intentional about bringing her resources to the city and ensuring they go to the programs that are making an IMPACT in the city on a daily basis!
